Shades of Corona

Marciana Pegero Rojo and Mr. Pegero, grandparents of Amelia Lerma. Date: Early 1900sShades of Corona was part of the statewide Shades of California photo history project which documented the daily lives and historical, political, and cultural contributions of the diverse communities of California. Click here to visit the Shades of Corona Gallery.

Shades of California sponsored Photo Days at public libraries throughout the state where people were invited to bring their family albums and personal photograph collections. Community volunteers and project staff selected and documented photographs which were then copied on-site by professional photographers. These images have been archived by the libraries and are available to the public at the host libraries. Copies of the photographs will also be maintained at the California State Library.

In Corona, the Shades of California grant helped to expand the photograph collection of the Heritage Room at the Corona Public Library. The emphasis of the project was to collect photographs from communities that were not represented in existing photograph collections.
